THE TEXAS PO’ BOYS

Dear Friends – Family – Dancers – Fellow Callers – and all other Supporters:

Over the past 19 years, the Texas Po’ Boys have had the opportunity to travel all over this great country of ours, to call square dances and sing concerts, meet friends, and entertain people.  We have had the privilege of calling with some great callers, singing for some wonderful people, and calling some great events.  Our memories of these events will last a lifetime.  The four of us have driven together, flown together, eaten together, stayed in hotels together, experienced marriages, divorces, births, deaths.  We’ve laughed together and we’ve cried together.  Over 19 years of being together as a group, we have grown to be family.

It is with great anticipation of what is to happen next, along with sadness, that we announce to all of our supporters and friends that we will call our last dance together on Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Texas State Square Dance Convention in Galveston, Texas.  We have made the determination that it is time to retire the Texas Po’ Boys’ name and legacy.  Some of us are getting older, some are moving in a new direction in life, and we feel it is time to disband the group while we are still able to call a good dance and sing good songs. 

We want all of you to know how much we appreciate your friendship and support over these past years.  Everywhere we have called or sung, we have been greeted with warmth and enthusiasm.  We have been welcomed with love and generosity.  We want all of you to know how grateful we are to have been allowed in your lives.  We hope that we have left a mark on your lives and we hope that you have been pleased that you hired us to entertain at your event.  We hope that you can say you had great fun while being with us, because that is certainly the case from us to you.  We will remain individual callers for a while, but we will not be a group.  If you see one of us at a dance, please share a story of your experience with us.  We will miss doing what we do, but the time is right for this to happen.   We want to extend a special thanks to Martha Sells for being our Webmaster for all these years.
